looks inspired by MUSIC ft. Low Roar

It's been a sec since I posted about music I've been enjoying and a look based off of that.
This soft, vintage, romantic look makes me feel the same things as I do when I listen to Low Roar's "Nobody Loves Me Like You"

shoes/ headband/shirt/skirt

The melody most of their songs are haunting and nostalgic. The soft color palette and European peasant feel of my outfit reminds me of my childhood in France and watching certain vintage French films or films about previous decades in European history. These elements are haunting and nostalgic to me in much the same way this Icelandic artist's music is.

another similar option to these shoes

Espadrilles are originally from southern France and northern Spain, included in the region of their origin is the place of my birth and where my family is from. They date all the way back to antiquity although their styles have evolved drastically over time. To me no other shoe says "summer in France" than a pair of espadrilles. Hence their nostalgic feel for me.

"Dreamer" is another beautifully haunting track by Low Roar. It reminds me of growing up, and realizing that things don't always turn out the way you dreamed they would.
I have fond memories of spending many hours of my childhood in the woods and natural areas near where I lived, this little parcel of woods was the perfect backdrop to emulate this feeling and suits most of Low Roar's tracks. I wish now that I could spend more time playing outside the way I used to as a child.

I'm Leaving is a little more upbeat, but still reminiscent of better days, simpler times perhaps. It feels summery and a little more carefree to me. As I head to Europe these next few weeks, I hope to recapture some of the feelings I had of childhood in France and long, beautiful summer days spent unburdened by the cares of the world which I now have as an adult.

What are some things that make you think of childhood summers?

lovely poppy---gentil coquelicot...(Part 2 of Building an Outfit)

This post will serve as the second installation in the "Building a Boss Outfit" series.
Ok, so once you have your magical wardrobe item, I would advise to build your outfit so that the marvelous item gets to take center stage and all other things complement it (not necessarily match it).

My wonderful item of choice this time around was this lovely poppy print skirt (WITH POCKETS) which was a gift that I had been wearing for good enough weather to wear. It was found on shopruche.com but I am unsure if it still available. I love poppies because they remind me of France. Since it has pretty bold color and print I thought that I would build the rest of the outfit with those principles of aesthetics in mind.

I picked a simple top that would let the skirt "shine", I made sure the colors were complementary and the shirt's print not too loud. I will talk about how I think mixing prints can work for you at a later time, I know many people are still not convinced that mixing prints is ok, but I think it adds visual appeal and interest to an outfit.

My sandals were a vintage thrifting find, I chose them because they fit the rustic spring/summer aesthetic I was going for. Note that the color doesn't "match" anything, but that is OK I promise, it does not all have to match.

I also wore my Young Women's medallion because this was on Sunday, and since I get the privilege of working with the Young Women I typically wear my medallion on Sundays. I think it is best not to over  accessorize when you've got a loud outfit on (the color and patterns are rather bright) so I went with simple shoes and necklace.

The take-away here is that coordinating is NOT the same as matching and that when you've got an awesome item you should let it be the center of attention, not overwhelm it. I will elaborate on all that in a future post so stay tuned :)

This week has been...eventful. I haven't had a lot of time to blog but I am committed to posting at least twice a week as part of a personal goal of mine. This look is kind of "farmer chic" hahaha...I kept it simple because it was worn on a super busy day where I had to run a lot of errands and couldn't be bothered with a ton of accessories or hair/makeup work. It also took me awhile to figure out this awesome wrap skirt I got on Vinted. You basically need a PhD in applied skirt sciences to get this bad boy on and off. Clearly I am still in the process of acquiring said PhD as the bow is tied all wonky. Thanks Musashi for not telling me!!!
I have had the blouse for years and I believe it was a Plato's Closet find. The booties were a gift, so I am unsure of where they came from but they are in a great neutral shade and are surprisingly comfy for heels (maybe I have a problem with nude shoes, or just shoes in general...)

mustard and blueberry---moutarde et myrtille

Here's a little secret. I actually wore this outfit two days this week...because I didn't have a chance to document it the first day I picked it out. You see, in the dead of winter, it just so happens that my weekday life is basically spent in darkness. I leave home before the sunrise and leave work after the sun has set. Oh, and I have little to no opportunity to ever leave the walls of the school during the day so I am essentially living a vampire's dream right about now.

*Chocolatey goodness*

Then comes the weekend. Gloriously beautiful in its sweet relief. Always much too short. I go outside a lot more on weekends to make up for the lost time with my BFF the Sun. I then ask my husband to snap some shots of a more casual outfit than what I featured last time I posted.
My top and cardigan were found on my online thrifting adventures thanks to my favorite app Vinted. I buy and sell and swap clothes and accessories quite a bit on there, you can find my closet there at chez_heidi
The booties are probably one of my all time favorite pairs of shoes and are of surprisingly high quality for being from Forever21. They happen to be more comfortable than 90% of the other shoes I own so they have been well-loved the past 3 years. The mustard jeans were a Christmas gift from 2-3 years ago, not sure where my dude got them but he certainly has good taste ;)

Can't get enough of the print and buttons on this shirt! So unique and fun
Enfin, le week-end arrive. Qu'il est glorieux et magnifique. Toujours bien trop court.
