Recently a small business approached me about being one of their reps, I looked through their website and LOVED what I saw. Not only is most of what you find on Simply Sunday Market  modest, it looked to be of excellent quality and has a fresh, unique style. Though the dress I am wearing went out of stock, I was able to find the same one on a similar website (Citrus and Lemon) which I will also be featuring in next week's modest clothing options, read on because I have a coupon codes for both websites :D

Another big thing that drew me into Simply Sunday's designs is that the large majority of their dressed have POCKETSSSS <3 and they're of the both cute and functional variety so I was very pleased about that.

I got this succulent necklace at the Magnolia Market Spring at the Silos festival from a local flower vendor who specializes in wedding bouquets, but I thought this was SO COOL. The plant lives from 3-4 weeks on your jewelry and then you can remove it and plant it and the succulent should take root and live a long happy life in a pot of dirt. You're left with a cool bronze necklace. I found a similar necklace which I linked under the photo.

Here is a a different look that is more of a transitional style for those who may still be experiencing cold weather this early in spring. One downside to Simply Sunday Market (which I think is actually a testament to how awesome they are) is that they don't keep stock too long, their products move quickly due to the competitive price for the quality and look you are getting. Therefore the exact jacket I am wearing is no longer in stock on their website, but I can assure you it is one of the coziest and softest I have ever tried on. I paired it with the dress which can still be purchased on their site.

I love the look of Swedish Hasbeens (and basically any Swedish clogs) but am not crazy about the high price tag. These little beauties were purchased off Poshmark, a second hand app, for a tiny fraction of their original price and I adore them. I paired them with thigh high knit socks from Target which I purchased over 2 years ago. I've linked a similar pair. If you are experiencing warmer spring temperatures, this dress is light enough that you could just pair it with some sandals and no jacket and you'd have an effortlessly adorable spring look.

Subtly sweet outfit for Valentine's Day

I seriously could NOT think of a better post title. I am so very tired and have a lot of stuff on my plate right now. I am going to keep it brief and just let the outfit shine. It is sort of Valentines-ish without being over the top; burgundy lace and florals go with the season without being saccharine (or so I think).

This is kind of like a "uniform" for me lately. I'll pull on a solid colored skirt with a patterned top OR a patterned skirt with a solid top then layer a cardigan in a coordinating shade. It has been perfect for the chilly morning, warmer afternoon weather we have been experiencing. Most of the items are thrifted/second hand but the skirt was a gift from my wonderful husband. 

Then, because I am short, I will pull it together with some kind of a comfortable heel and a waist-defining apparatus. The belt is one of my favorites and I have it in black too, if they sold it in other colors I probably would own them too because they are seriously awesome.

I've heard that the only constant in life is change...

J' ai entendu dire que la seule constante dans la vie c' est le changement...

Change has most notably been in my life in the form of moving. I've never lived in any one place longer than 4 years. This is something about me that I both love and hate about my life. I have seen so many different places and met so many people, but I have never felt at home or settled down.

Le changement s' est présenté dans ma vie sous la forme du déménagement. Je n'ai jamais vécu dans une même ville pour plus de 4 ans. Ceci est quelque chose qu'à la fois j'adore et que je déteste, j'adore voir de nouveaux lieux et rencontrer de nouvelles personnes, je déteste devoir tout recommencer et me sentir comme si je n'ai pas de "chez moi". 

My husband has been looking for a job for awhile now. He wanted to get out of the oil and gas industry; his company and many others experienced a lot of layoffs, oil and gas is not his passion, and ethically it doesn't really agree with us. Musashi's interests are in the aerospace and aeronautic field. He has been working toward his pilot's license and he is very close to being done with that, and he also just got a job offer. Two of his big goals have been achieved.

Il voulait quitter son poste dans l'industrie du pétrol; son entreprise et beaucoup d'autres ont souffertes avec la crise de pétrol, Musashi n'est pas passioné du pétrol, et le pétrol ne s'aligne pas avec nos éthiques. Les intêrets de mon mari sont plutôt l'aerospatial et l'aeronautique. Depuis quelques années il travail sur sa licence de pilote privé, et maintenant il a reçu une nouvelle offre d'emploi. Deux de ses grands buts sont presque atteints. 

Musashi's new job is in avionics, which is definitely in the field he wanted to get into. The company that offered him the job is Safran, a French aerospace and defense conglomerate. The position is in Dallas, Texas. I am both excited and very sad about this new change.

Le nouveau poste de Musashi est dans l'avionique, donc c'est un domaine qui l'nteresse. L'entreprise qui lui a offert le poste c'est Safran, une entreprise de défense et d'aeronautique française. Le poste est à Dallas, dans le Texas. J'ai hâte de pouvoir déménager mais je suis aussi tellement triste de devoir le faire.

Not only is moving stressful and a pain in the butt...I hate having to leave behind all the friendships and connections I feel like I just barely made. We have been in Houston 3 years, but because we have been so busy with work, it has been hard getting to know people and making friends. I always end up becoming close to people only right as I am about to leave.

I find that all too often I get written off and forgotten once I move, and while it is very hurtful it's also understandable; when you're no longer a part of someone's day-to-day it just happens. As a social person one of my biggest fears is that I will never really have a true friend, one that I can turn to no matter what (besides my husband), there have been friends like that in the cities I have lived in but once I move it is never quite the same afterward. 

Non seulement le déménagement est-il stressant et pénible...je déteste devoir quitter les amis que j'ai l'impression d'avoir à peine rencontrer. Nous vivons à Houston depuis 3 ans, mais puique nous avons été préoccupé par le travail nous n'avons pas eu l'occasion de sortir souvent et de former des amitiés. J'ai la mauvaise habitude de me rapprocher des gens juste avant de devoir déménager. 

J'ai constaté que l'on oublie rapidement ceux qui partent, ça me blesse mais c'est comprehensible; quand tu n'es plus dans la vie quotidienne des gens c'est une conséquence naturelle. En tant qu'une personne sociable j'ai peur de ne jamais pouvoir trouvé une amie à qui tout confier (à part mon marie), j'ai eu des amis proches dans les différentes villes où j'ai vécu mais une fois que je pars les choses ne sont jamais vraiment les mêmes. 

One thing I hope to continue in my new city is to mentor young people. The lovely lady pictured with me is one of MANY young people whom I have grown to cherish and I hope that I will continue to be able to teach and inspire them through my work as a teacher and my church responsibilities.

 Until I move, I will make the most of the little time I have left in Houston. This was a fine city to experience "real" adulthood in, now I guess I'm an old wizened woman moving up north just a few hours ;)

La jolie petite demoiselle dans les photos avec moi n'est qu'une de plusieurs jeunes personnes avec qui j'ai eu le privilège de servir. A travers mon travail en tant que prof et en tant que dirigeante de jeunes à l'église j'espère que je continurais à être une conseillère et une enseignante pour elles. 

 Mais bon, jusqu'au jour du déménagement je vair profiter de mon temps à Houston. Houston a été une ville sympa pour notre première experience de travaul, et maintenant il est bientôt temps pour cette vieille harpie de partir quelques heures au nord ;)

I wore this outfit on the day that the U.S. celebrated Mother's Day. I got to thinking about how my mom and her mom have inspired and continue to inspire me. 

My mom learned from her mom that you can be stylish and maintain your personal convictions and comfort zones with regard to modesty. I am thankful to my mom for then passing down this lesson, and helping me come to that conclusion on my own as I grew older and more independent.

My mother and grandmother are shining beacons of class, beauty, inner strength and light. I want to make them proud and find myself thinking of what they might say when I dress myself.

Neither my mom nor my grandma are slaves to trends. They have their own style, they are thrifty and wise with their purchases. I continue to try and consider the versatility of my purchases, if they are true to my style and if they are financially reasonable.

My grandma let me have some of her clothes when I last went to visit her; they are timeless and beautiful and I will cherish them forever. My mom and I constantly trade and wear one another's things as well. 

Most of all, they both have taught me that while what you present on the outside can help you feel confident and help you express yourself it is what is on the inside that truly matters. I love these women and love the influence they have had on my life, and for so much more than their style!

En pensant à la fête des mères je pense à la manière dont maman et mamie m'ont influencé et continuent de m'influencer. 

Ma mamie a appris a ma mère qu'il est possible d'être chic en restant pudique. Ainsi ma mère m'a enseigner la même leçon, et j'en suis reconnaissante. Ma mère et ma grand-mère sont des femmes fortes, rayonnantes, et classes. Quand je m'habille je pense souvent à elles et j'essaie de faire des choix qui les rendraient fières. 

Ma mère m'a aussi appris qu'il faut choisir ses achats judiciseusement. Ni elle ni ma mamie sont victimes des tendances de mode. Je reste fidèle à mes goûts et mon style personnel car elles m'ont appris à le faire. J'essaie de faire de sages décisions financières même si j'aime beaucoup la mode. Ma mère m'a montrer à maintes reprises qu'il n'y a pas besoin de dépenser beaucoup pour avoir de belles tenues. 

Ma mamie et ma mère m'ont donner de leurs vêtements et je les porte souvent car elles ont un style que j'adore. Elles m'ont montrer qu'un ensemble peut te donner de la confiance et t'aider à t'exprimer. Mais elles m'ont aussi montrer que ce qu'il se trouve à l'interieur est beaucoup plus important que ce que tu portes. Merci à deux femmes magnifiques qui m' ont tant appris par leurs merveilleux exemples. Je vous aime!

Covering the basics with Shop Ruche- modest clothing options in a modern world series

Many of my readers and friends often ask me where I get my clothes from. This is a complicated question to answer for a variety of reasons. There is no one "go to" place that I use. I usually prefer shopping second-hand due to personal ethical convictions. But I understand that on occasion it is nice to buy something new and others might not feel comfortable buying used. I have started a series where I will be highlighting a retailer which provides modest clothing options in order to share some of the places I find my modest clothes. 

Being LDS means my definition of modest apparel might be different than yours. I am not here to judge, just showcase places which happen to have options which are a little more covered in the shoulder/arm and leg areas. 

Shop Ruche has been a long time favorite of mine. It is also a great comeback story and one of small business success. They started out as a tiny online boutique catering to a clientele interested in eclectic and unique styles. I happened upon them by accident, browsing one day for something very specific (I was looking for a bold poppy print, and found this poppy skirt which I wore here). 

Right off the bat I noticed a lot of their designs met my needs for more coverage, and while they were a little more spendy than what I was used to buying, they have great online coupon deals and sales when you subscribe. They even have filters you can set for longer length skirts and dresses as well as tops with sleeves.

I literally cried last spring when they announced they were going out of business. I had been asking my husband to get my birthday and Christmas gifts there for years, and I would constantly ogle and admire their cute clothes, shoes and decor. What would I do now that they were gone?!?

Luckily for me, others felt the same way I did, and a few months later they announced their return after enough investors and former clients had shown an interest in keeping their business alive. I was ecstatic! 

 I mean, who else would be able to fill my pleated airplane print maxi dress, silver stiletto heel dreams?

Every single one of the items I have ordered from there has been nothing short of amazing quality, stunning in presentation and fit beautifully. I adore this company and recommend Shop Ruche to all my friends, family, and readers. They have a variety of styles to suit many tastes, and while their price point might be a little higher than what I am used to paying, I can wait patiently for sales and deals and I know I am getting a one-of-a-kind piece that is worth every penny.

My coworkers and I were talking about the fact that it never got cold this winter in Houston. As in, we never got to bust out anything thicker than a cardigan. We are talking, sweating and pitting out in jeans and t-shirts at recess in February. Feeling not just warm, but HOT in winter is an oddity for me.

Mes collègues et moi étiont en train de discuter à propos du temps et comme quoi il n'y a pas vraiment eu de rafraichissment des températures cette année. Genre, on a pas eu l'occasion de porter plus qu'un petit pull. Style, on transpire comme des cochons à la récré tous les jours en t-shirts et en jeans. C'est vraiment affreux d'avoir chaud en plein hiver. 

This outfit was worn on one of our "colder" days of the season (I think we had a high in the 50s) and it showcases two of my favorite fabrics that are coming back into style. Flannel and velvet! I think they are great fabrics for cooler weather as well as transitioning from or into cooler seasons (fall and spring).

Cette tenue je l'ai porté lors d'un de nos jours ultra rare où il a fait "frais"  (dans les 10-15 degrés) et je l'aime parce que les matières sont de bons tissus pour quand il fait frais ou froid; le velour et la flanelle.

La jupe est d'occasions et vient des années '90s. C'est une jupe en velour d'un joli marron qui ne se présente pas super bien en photos. Vous pouvez trouvez ceci plus facilement en ligne avec etsy ou ebay. 

The skirt is vintage velvet and is actually a dark chocolatey brown but its gloriousness doesn't photograph quite that well. It was a miraculous Deseret Industries find from several years ago back in Utah, it must have cost me about $3. I love that velvet is coming back, but again, when do you find occasions to wear such a sumptuously warm fabric in Hel...hot places. You can find similar skirts on etsy and ebay, with stuff like this you will have better luck searching places where you can find vintage items.

I picked up this vintage ruffled-collar, plaid top at Deseret Industries for $1 back in Utah, but you can find similar ones here and here. I love the pattern, the warm texture, and the collar detail but don't get to wear it as often as I'd like because of how warm it is.

swamp queen---la reine de l'étang (Part 3 of Building an Outfit)

Welcome back to the mini-series on building your bossiest of the boss outfits. I've already talked about picking out your foundation item; making sure it is something you love and feel fabulous about. Then I followed up with advice about letting the item shine; complimenting vs. competing and matching.

 In this post I will be talking about adding your own personal flair and putting the finishing touches on your outfit: accessorizing, peeps!!!

I knew I would be going to church when I started building this outfit, so my thoughts went towards which skirts I owned that would be comfortable and season-appropriate. I picked this pink number because the color and fabric are spring-ish and the length would be enough to cover me in the chilliness and wind. I am usually not a fan of pink but this one has that peach tone to it which I like. Then I thought about which tops I had which would help compliment it; I picked a darker top because I like to have a color balance of light and dark so things pop. I like the slightly more fitted silhouette and structure that the button-up provides and there are many shades of orange, cream, and pink in a fun and unique pattern (I LOVE unique prints). A quick word about fit; if I had not tucked in my shirt there would have been some problems trying to identify where my waist is and it would have looked frumpy and weird. I will address more specifics on fit in another post soon ;) 

Ok, so getting down to the nitty gritty of this post. Once I have my top and bottom I am technically dressed. I mean, ham and two slices of bread are technically a sandwich...a sad, depressing, bachelor sandwich but a sandwich nonetheless. 

So now for condiments, and cheese, and veggies. I usually go for a more minimalist approach when it comes to accessorizing, I think you should stick to no more than 3 accessories in any given outfit. I know some would disagree with this method, but the more I accessorize I find the more concerned I am as I move throughout the day that things will be caught onto other things, or fall off, or sit funny, or make noise...or make me look like Ms. Frizzle from magic school bus (who am I kidding she is awesome). 

With that said, I practice a lot of what I mentioned in the previous post about coordinating your colors, textures, patterns, and even the overall look or feeling of the outfit. The accessories are the flair, they are how you inject your personality into the outfit.

I was feeling a definite boho-queen vibe from the top and bottom, and I had been itching to wear this headband; it just speaks to me and my style. The subtle metallic sheen, the plush shape of the flowers, how full it looks on your head...I love everything about it and was so excited I would finally get to wear it! 

 I then added a belt to again pull in the look at the waist, it also had a metallic accent which compliments the headband and the color of the pleather went with the color scheme I had going.

The shoes are awesome; super comfy, they go with a ton of things and are that boho rustic style that I love. The dark color also draws in from the blouse I am wearing and really finishes the whole look.

Overall this whole look probably cost me under $30

Bienvenue au troisième épisode dans la série "comment créér une tenue".

J'ai déjà parlé de la première étape quand on doit trouver un article magique. J'ai aussi parlé du fait que l'on doit laisser l'article magique être la vedette de la tenue et que d'harmoniser ne veut pas dire que tout est de la même couleur.

Aujourd'hui je vais parler de la troisième étape: les accessoires et les petits détails de l'ensemble.

Mon article magique du jour c'était cette jolie jupe rose. Normalement je ne suis pas fan du rose mais j'aime cette jupe car le tissue est léger et a un teint un peu pêche. Je pense que pour que ce soit équilibré un look doit avoir des couleurs clairs et sombres, donc le haut est composé de plusieurs couleurs un peu plus sombre que la jupe mais dans la même famille de couleur avec un motif qui me plait beaucoup.

Bon, bah, avec ma jupe et mon haut je suis techniquement habillée... du pain et du jambon font techniquement un sandwich, un sandwich triste et lasse certes, mais un sandwich tout de même.

Maintenant pour le fromage, et les légumes :) Personnellement je pense que l'on ne devrait jamais avoir plus de 3 accéssoires avec son ensemble, pour moi c'est distrayant d'en avoir plus. 

Mon serre tête je l'adore, je trouve qu'il reflète bien mon style personnel et j'aime beaucoup la couleur dorée et la forme des fleurs ainsi que la matière douce ce qui rend tout ça très agréable à porter.

Je porte la ceinture pour que l'on puisse voir ma taille ( c'est pour ça que je porte aussi ma chemise nichée dans ma jupe) et je trouve que la couleur du faux-cuir et le métal doré vont bien bien avec la chemise et le serre tête.

Finalement les chaussures; j'adore ces chaussures (j'ai sérieusement l'impression de dire ça à chaque fois que j'écris un blogue hahaha) puisqu'elles sont compensées j'arrive à marcher sans soucis et sans douleur. La couleur va bien avec beaucoup de choses et la coupe et le look sont très boho et rustique, un style qui me plait énormement.

En tout j'ai dépensé moins de $30 (~25 euros) sur cette tenue.

So yeah I am matching the walls of my apartment complex...oh wall.

I like the color khaki, it's my favorite neutral. This outfit is actually all made of neutrals, BUT it is visually interesting thanks to different patterns, layers, and textures (I consider chambray to be a neutral, it's the "new" neutral).

These shoes are SO comfortable. They are also black and flattering, and classic and awesome. I will cry when they get worn out because they save my life at work all the time. I got them and the pants on clearance at H&M with a gift card, the tops and necklace were each under $5. 

I love unique pendants like this, I don't get to wear them often because I am usually wearing my teacher ID badge

J'aime la couleur khaki, c'est ma couleur neutre préférée. Cette tenue est composée entièrement de couleurs neutres, MAIS je la garde intéressante en ajoutant des motifs différents et des matières et textures différentes. 

Ces chaussures sont hyper confortables. Elles sont aussi flatteuses, et classiques, et géniales. Je vais pleurer une fois qu'elles seront trop vielles pour que je les portes, elles me sauvent la vie au travail constamment. Je les ai acheté à H&M en soldes .

is that a muumuu?---est-ce un sac à patates? (Part 1 of Building an Outfit)

So, it appears the number one question I have heard people utter (including myself) when about to go out into the world is "What should I wear???" usually followed by groans and other exasperated sounds bemoaning a lack of good options in the closet/dresser/wherever you keep your stuff.

Some readers have asked me to help them create a "boss"outfit I mentioned in my very first post. The one you put on and immediately everything is better, brighter and you're capable of being superhuman. Truthfully I don't have a set answer for everyone and every situation of what that will look like; it is something I am still trying to figure out for myself but I do have some tips and ideas for you! I have decided to start a sort of mini-series based around that idea.

I recommend starting simple. Find just ONE thing that you absolutely love wearing. Whether that be shoes, a dress, a skirt, some pants, a shirt, anything. The magic item in your wardrobe. Every human being should have at least one; if you don't then for the love of all that is good FIND IT. If you are having a hard time look for something in your favorite color, or a theme/print you love, start observing what others wear, what people on your favorite TV show wear, what your parents or grandparents wore. Try things on when you're out and about, even if you don't intend to buy anything. Try all sorts of things, even crazy out-there things you would never think to try on, you might find yourself surprised at what you'll end up liking. 

When you have that ONE awesome thing, build on it. You will hear me say that a lot. Build. I think that when it comes to an outfit it is a lot like building a house or at least decorating it; you've got to have a foundation, and then a theme and things that coordinate and complement each other. 

 That's all I will write about for volume 1 of the boss outfit series. If you already have an idea of what your style and tastes are then all I can say is stay tuned for more ;) 

As always, your marvelous, magificent wardrobe item does not have to be expensive, designer, or even new. Most of my very favorites are thrifted. This dress is a vintage dress I got on ebay, the shoes are from thredup.com and the belt is from Deseret Industries (the Utah version of Goodwill). Thredup.com is a lot more like an actual consignment store than Vinted but I totally love it. I think I will do a post one day just on my sources for wardrobe items, just to fully do them all service and inform everyone better J

Il me semble que la question que j’entends la plus souvent (venu de moi-même et des autres) c’est « Que vais-je porter ??? » et en général la question est suivie de gémissements et de soupirs, car nous ne trouvons rien de convenable malgré tous ce que nous possédons.

Quelques lecteurs m’ont demandé comment créé une tenue de « chef » (j’en ai parlé brièvement dans mon premier article).  En gros c’est la tenue que tu portes et tout d’un coup tout va merveilleusement bien, tu te la pètes, et tu peux accomplir tout et n’importe quoi. A vrai dire je ne sais pas comment créée cette tenue pour chaque individu et chaque circonstance mais je peux partager quelques idées. Je vais en faire une espèce de mini-série. 

Je vous conseille de commencer très simple. Trouvez UNE chose que vous adorez, que ce soit une paire de chaussures, une robe, une jupe, un pantalon, une chemise, n’importe quoi. L’article magique de votre garde-robe. Chaque être humain devrait en avoir au moins un ; si vous ne l’avez pas et bien faite tout de votre possible pour LE TROUVER. Si vous avez toujours du mal, cherchez donc quelque chose de votre couleur préférée, dans un motif que vous aimez, observez ce que porte les autres atours de vous, ce que porte les personnages de vos émissions préférées, pensez à ce que portaient vos parents et grands-parents. Essayez plein de nouvelles choses, n’ayez pas peur d’essayer toutes sortes de choses, mêmes des choses qui vous ont l’air bizarre ou que vous croyez ne sont pas pour vous. Vous n’avez pas besoin d’acheter quoi que ce soit donc de tenter ne fait aucun mal. Vous serez sûrement surpris des choses que vous allez trouver qui vous plairont.

Quand vous avez enfin L’ARTICLE merveilleux et magnifique, tirer à partir de celui-ci. Vous allez souvent m’entendre dire ça, de tirer ou de fonder votre tenue à partir de quelque chose. Je pense que compléter un ensemble c’est semblable à la construction d’une maison ; il faut bâtir sur des fondations, ajouter des « murs » et y mettre un thème et de la décoration.
