Recently a small business approached me about being one of their reps, I looked through their website and LOVED what I saw. Not only is most of what you find on Simply Sunday Market  modest, it looked to be of excellent quality and has a fresh, unique style. Though the dress I am wearing went out of stock, I was able to find the same one on a similar website (Citrus and Lemon) which I will also be featuring in next week's modest clothing options, read on because I have a coupon codes for both websites :D

Another big thing that drew me into Simply Sunday's designs is that the large majority of their dressed have POCKETSSSS <3 and they're of the both cute and functional variety so I was very pleased about that.

I got this succulent necklace at the Magnolia Market Spring at the Silos festival from a local flower vendor who specializes in wedding bouquets, but I thought this was SO COOL. The plant lives from 3-4 weeks on your jewelry and then you can remove it and plant it and the succulent should take root and live a long happy life in a pot of dirt. You're left with a cool bronze necklace. I found a similar necklace which I linked under the photo.

Here is a a different look that is more of a transitional style for those who may still be experiencing cold weather this early in spring. One downside to Simply Sunday Market (which I think is actually a testament to how awesome they are) is that they don't keep stock too long, their products move quickly due to the competitive price for the quality and look you are getting. Therefore the exact jacket I am wearing is no longer in stock on their website, but I can assure you it is one of the coziest and softest I have ever tried on. I paired it with the dress which can still be purchased on their site.

I love the look of Swedish Hasbeens (and basically any Swedish clogs) but am not crazy about the high price tag. These little beauties were purchased off Poshmark, a second hand app, for a tiny fraction of their original price and I adore them. I paired them with thigh high knit socks from Target which I purchased over 2 years ago. I've linked a similar pair. If you are experiencing warmer spring temperatures, this dress is light enough that you could just pair it with some sandals and no jacket and you'd have an effortlessly adorable spring look.

Covering the basics with Unique Vintage---modest clothing options in a modern world

I'm back with another addition to my series on places where I find clothing with more coverage. One of my very favorite sites where I continually find beautiful modest clothes is Unique Vintage. I own MANY of their one piece swimsuits which I might feature here at some point, and the heels, skirt, and petticoat I am wearing in this shot are from there as well.

Unique Vintage's pieces are a little spendier than what I am accustomed to paying for but they also run sales and deals and honestly, the quality of their pieces can't be beat. If you know anything about me you know I am a sucker for vintage and retro styles so the fact that they sell true vintage clothes and vintage recreated styles has me goo-goo, ga-ga and needing to exercise a lot of restraint so as to not buy everything.

Now I want to clarify some things about myself and this blog. I have titled this series about "modesty". I find that modesty is subjective and easily misinterpreted. So here are a few things to keep in mind...

1. My version of modesty looks different than it might yours. It might look different even than other women's in my own faith. Modesty to me, means I respect myself, God, and the promises I have made to Him. I dress in a way I would feel comfortable presenting myself to Him. That looks different on different days too, if I am going to church I am going to try and show respect by dressing a little nicer. If I am working out, I am just trying to be comfortable and functional to exercise and keep my body healthy. 

To some I dress in a way that might seem stuffy, old fashioned. I get that and respect it. 

And to others I might dress in a way that is totally scandalous. I get that and respect that too.

2. Some people think modest dressing even goes beyond that to not dress in a way that brings any kind of attention to yourself and that style in and of itself cannot be "modest". Some people see it as being completely frugal with the money you spend, and to an extent I try to adhere to that with my wardrobe but it is all relative, and I am sure that to some of those people I am scandalous as well. But they probably wouldn't be reading a fashion blog...

3. Just because I choose to dress the way that I do does not mean I will judge ANYONE for their own choices to dress in as much or as little clothing as they want to. I also don't think that modesty should be about anyone other than YOU and YOUR choices. Whatever YOU are comfortable with does not have to be explained to anyone else. Everyone is responsible for their own thoughts and actions. The way you or I dress does not give anyone a right to say or do anything to degrade or humiliate us. That says more about the person making the comment or doing something rude than it does about you.

At the end of the day fashion makes me happy, and finding ways to be creative with it makes me happy. Finding great new places to shop, like Unique Vintage, makes me happy and I just want to share the happiness.

online consign like a pro: the vinted special

This is the second in a series of blog posts about online consignment (here is the one on ThredUp). This is featuring my favorite of the apps I use to sell and buy clothes, shoes and accessories...VINTED

Oh and also featuring the bright pink wall I have been dying to take pictures in front of.

Pink wall was slightly disappointing, the ground sinks and then there was a faint smell of dumpster or dog doodoo and the color was NOT doing anything for my complexion

How it Works (Seller Side):

• Vinted has both an application for smartphones/tablets and a website for computer use, it is free to sign up, all you need is an email address and bank/paypal information

• The website and app are both extremely user friendly, when you want to sell you begin by taking good pictures of the item you want to sell (this is the key to selling in my opinion, great pictures)

• Once you have your pictures uploaded you can describe your item, categorize it by size, type, color, etc and give it a title, and use hashtags to try and identify your items in a search as many ways as possible

• Your post will be confirmed and then you wait! Sometimes if your pictures are really good and your item is in season and trendy it will get featured on the main page, this is great because it will be viewed by more people 

• Each item you upload makes up your closet, other users can choose to follow your closet and favorite your items 

• Once an item has sold you are responsible for sending it in a timely manner but Vinted provides the shipping label so all you need to do is package it and drop it off at a designated pick up location for USPS

• As a seller you receive 81% of the profit (on higher priced items they cap the selling fees at $5)

• You can receive feedback on your purchases and sales (kind of like eBay)

• Vinted accepts many things, women's clothes, shoes, accessories, and even beauty supplies now. Men's and children's apparel is also accepted which is great because not all platforms have that option

• There is a forum where you can reach out to other users and a section where you can see what people are looking for, which if you are motivated and engaged will help you make more sales

• If you get tired of the app but want to return at some point, or if you legitimately go out of town there is a "vacation" mode which will hide your items and prevent you from getting in trouble if someone buys your item while you are unavailable to send it 

• Swapping/trading is always a safe and basically free option to get rid of items in exchange for something you love if the other party agrees, this feature is another one that puts Vinted a cut above the rest in my opinion

 

The Shopper Pros and Cons:

Pros:

• A HUGE selection on everything you could possibly think of, though the children and men's sections are still growing (they were recently added features) there are a variety of styles, price ranges, and sizes available 

• There is a way to personalize and filter based on sizes and brands in your "feed" (which is the home page so to speak)

• Searching for specific items is easy and you can use filters much like your feed, and then you can easily add them to your favorites list by clicking on a small heart icon

• There is a messaging feature for each item to contact the seller to try and ask questions about it, make an offer, try to swap or simply buy the item

• You can make offers on an item which you want at a cheaper price, create bundles of several items from a single closet 

Cons:

• The only con I have found is that you do have to pay for shipping as a buyer which can sometimes be high, and as a seller you are at the mercy of others to purchase your items. I can say with experience that you pretty much get out of it what you put in, if you put work into your closet you will be rewarded with increased interest in your items.

All parts of the outfit except accessories are from Vinted and cost well under $5 each. I often tie my button up shirts with tight high waisted items to give it a laid back and retro look.

Final Recommendations:

I cannot recommend this app enough, it has honestly changed the way I shop and try to recycle my wardrobe. About 2/3 of my current wardrobe was either swapped through there or bought off of there and I have gotten rid of over 200 of my own items. I love that I am not only getting a great deal or giving someone a great deal on something I don't love anymore but that I am saving the planet by doing so. The community on Vinted is great too, it does make a difference if you enjoy interacting with awesome people.

 I hardly ever buy anything new anymore, typically I only do so if I have received a gift card, and I try not to ever throw anything out because the clothing industry is a major pollutant.

Am I the only one who hears a song and pictures myself in the music video? I sure hope not because that would be embarrassing...

In any case, I bring you a new series where I find inspiration from the music I listen to, I think it's fun because it brings together two of my interests and I know I am not the only one out there who loves music.

One of my favorite all time songs can be found here. It is a remix of The Submarine's song "1940", and listening to it always makes me feel like an awesome retro queen if only in my daydreams. 

My outfit today also made me feel this way. 

I stuck with another one of my signature outfit formulas:

Print in neutral colors+ another different print in the same colors+ pop of color+ neutral accessory

I also try to make sure that the look is cohesive in terms of the era it appears to be from, it's all pretty prim and proper and reminiscent of the 1940s/1950s.

 To complete the look I opted to pin/curl my hair back and add a little winged liner and a bold red lip.

Suis-je la seule à m'imaginer la vedette d'une vidéo musique quand j'entends une chanson que j'adore? J'espère que non, ça serait gênant...

De toute façon, je vous présente une nouvelle série où je m'inspire de la musique pour créer mes ensembles. J'aime beaucoup la musique et je sais que je ne suis pas la seule donc je suis contente de pouvoir partager un autre de mes intérêts.

Une de mes chansons préférées actuellement c'est un rémix de 1940 des Submarines. Cette chanson me donne l'impression d'être une reine rétro!

Ma tenue m'a donné cette même impression. 

J'ai utilisé une de mes formules pour la création d'une tenue:

couleurs neutres et un motif+ motif différent couleurs semblables+ couleur vive et continu+ accéssoires neutres

J'essaie aussi de faire attention à ce que le style ne soit pas en désaccord. Ici je tire des looks des années 1940s/1950s. Même pour ma coiffure et mon maquillage j'ai fait un éffort, histoire que ça fasse un look complet.
